PROMOTORES PARA EL FUTURO
PROMOTORES PARA EL FUTURO
Born from the communities' need to create a sustainable Community Health Worker (CHW) network in the rural Amazonas District of Loreto, Peru; the MGY Community Health Worker program began in 2011. Initial program development was based on a few topics highlighted as essential health needs of the community and has continued to evolve utilizing a community participatory model. Since that time, MGY has teamed up with several NGOs in the area to develop a standardized, sustainable CHW education curriculum. Six training workshops have touched on basic first aid, vital sign assessment, recognition of malaria and severe dengue fever, care for children with diarrheal illness, and osteopathic manipulative medicine. More than 34 CHWs (representing 18 different communities and over 1660 community members) have been trained since July 2022.
The communities are grateful to have the promotores available to them, and the promotores are proud to be the first line of healthcare in the communities.
